Robert Glasper Experiment’s ‘Black Radio 2’ Keeps Sounding Better

Robert Glasper Experiment

I loved Robert Glasper Experiment’s ‘Black Radio’. He is a jazz pianist who won the R&B Grammy for the album – and honestly who cares about labels when the music is so good? Now we are getting ready for the October 29th release of the follow-up ‘Black Radio 2’, with an array of guests even greater than the first album!

The core of the album remains the Experience – Robert Glasper on keyboards, Derrick Hodge on bass, Mark Colenburg on drums, and Casey Benjamin on vocoder and saxophone. They are joined by Common, Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy, Brandy, Jill Scott, Dwele, Marsha Ambrosius, Anthony Hamilton, Faith Evans, Norah Jones, Snoop Dogg, Lupe Fiasco, Luke James, Emeli Sandé, Lalah Hathaway, and Malcolm-Jamal Warner.

Three ‘preview’ songs have been released for streaming, and they are all solid, including ‘Let It Ride’ featuring Norah Jones (who I usually don’t like) which reminds me very much of ‘The Essence’ from Herbie Hancock’s ‘Future 2 Future’ album.

Here is ‘Calls’ featuring Jill Scott:

‘What Are We Doing’ with Brandy

And just because I love the song, here is the original Black Radio featuring Mos Def:
